PRACTICUM & INTERNSHIP PLACEMENTS

Train in private practice with a doctoral-level counselor educator.

If you’re a counseling student looking for a practicum or internship site, I offer placements designed to give you real private-practice experience while you build your clinical skills, professional identity, and confidence.

As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS), Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), CACREP site reviewer, and Associate Dean and Program Director of a doctoral program in Counselor Education and Supervision, I know what programs expect from field placements and what it takes to help students grow into strong, ethical clinicians.

What this placement offers

  • Weekly individual supervision with a doctoral-level LCMHCS

  • Telehealth experience serving clients across North Carolina

  • Private practice exposure, including intake, documentation, scheduling, and the business side of counseling

  • Design and marketing training/tips, including use of design, layout, and website software

  • Training in narrative, solution-focused, and cognitive behavioral approaches

  • Mentoring on your professional path, whether that’s licensure, private practice, or doctoral study

  • Paid placement! Students earn 40% of each session fee collected through the reduced-fee clinic.

How the placement works

This is a build-your-caseload placement. Students see clients at a reduced fee, which offers affordable counseling to people who might not otherwise have access to care. You’ll help grow your caseload through outreach, such as connecting with community organizations and sharing the practice with people who need it, with my guidance and support.

This model works best for students who are self-motivated, organized, and interested in what it takes to build a practice. In return, you’ll leave with clinical hours, plus practical experience that most placements can’t offer.

Additional direct-hour opportunities may include:

  • Co-leading or leading groups

  • Community workshops and psychoeducation

  • Co-facilitation and/or observation (with client consent)

Is this placement right for you?

This placement may be a good fit if you:

  • Are enrolled in a CACREP-accredited clinical mental health or rehabilitation counseling program

  • Are comfortable providing services by telehealth

  • Are proactive about outreach and building relationships

  • Can commit to 10 hours per week for the full term (Practicum) or 15-20 hours per week for the full term (Internship)

Your program must approve me as a site and complete an affiliation agreement before you begin. I’m glad to talk with your clinical coordinator about how the placement is structured and how direct hours are gained.
